Hope for 15,000 Homebuyers: NBCC Rolls Out ₹9,620 Crore Plan to Complete Stuck Supertech Projects

In a massive relief for thousands of families who have been stuck in an agonizing wait for their dream homes, state-owned NBCC (India) Limited has officially invited bids worth ₹9,620.33 crore to finish 16 long-delayed Supertech residential projects.

The public sector company has floated 25 separate tenders to kickstart construction and structural repairs across 16 major housing developments. Spread out over Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka, these projects represent nearly 50,000 apartments—many of which have been abandoned as concrete skeletons for years.

How We Got Here: The Legal Battle

Getting to this point took a long, exhausting legal fight. It started back in December 2024 when the appeals tribunal (NCLAT) stepped in and handed the messy cleanup job to NBCC, naming them the official management consultant. The last bit of uncertainty disappeared in February 2026 when the Supreme Court firmly backed that decision. That ruling cleared away the final legal roadblocks, meaning real work can finally get started on the ground.

The Math Behind the Rescue Plan

The sheer scale of this rescue mission is staggering:

  • 50,962 total apartments are tied up across these 16 stalled projects.
  • 39,870 families have already bought and paid for their properties.
  • 24,871 buyers have successfully moved into their homes over the years.
  • 14,999 homebuyers are still left stranded, waiting for their keys.

Financially, the math looks highly promising for a successful rescue. NBCC estimates it will take about ₹1,700 crore to finish the remaining sold apartments. Meanwhile, the company expects to collect roughly ₹2,200 crore in remaining dues from the buyers of those units—meaning the project has a healthy cash buffer to sustain itself.

What Happens Next?

If all goes according to plan, heavy machinery could be back on site very soon. NBCC wants to start actual construction and structural safety repairs on January 16, 2027.

Before the first brick is laid, the company has to wrap up a mountain of due diligence, structural safety audits, and bureaucratic checks. NBCC engineers are currently on the ground mapping out site-specific headaches—including tricky situations where the previous developers built structures that don’t match the original city-approved blueprints.

Despite the remaining paperwork, floating these massive tenders transitions the Supertech crisis out of boardroom legal arguments and into real-world construction. For the 15,000 families who have spent years paying both monthly rent and home loan EMIs, this is the most tangible sign yet that they might finally get to unlock their front doors.
