Allahabad High Court Cancels Two Orders by Former Yeida Chairman, Asks for Review

The Allahabad High Court has canceled two decisions made by the former chairman of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida), Anil Kumar Sagar. These decisions were about canceling leases for two industrial plots. The court has now asked officials to look over the cases.

Court Cancels Orders Over Lease Cancellations

On Monday, Justice Pankaj Bhatia of the Lucknow bench canceled the orders after the state government’s lawyer told the court that Anil Kumar Sagar had been removed from his position as Yeida chairman on December 14.

Review Process Directed to Principal Secretary (Industries)

Additional Advocate General Vinod Kumar Shahi explained, “The court has canceled both orders made by the former Yeida chairman and sent the case to the principal secretary (Industries) to look at it again and listen to everyone involved.”

The principal secretary (Industries) is the person who reviews appeals against Yeida’s decisions. Shahi represented the state government in this case.

Anil Kumar Sagar Removed From Key Government Roles

Anil Kumar Sagar had three important jobs in the state government: chairman of Yeida, principal secretary for industrial development, and principal secretary for IT and electronics. He was removed from all these roles.

Court Identifies Irregularities in Yeida's Operations

The decision to remove Sagar came after the court noticed major problems in Yeida’s working. On December 11, the court took a serious look at how two industrial plot leases were canceled.

Court's Warning to the State Government

Justice Bhatia had told the state government to take action on the issue. He also warned that if nothing was done, the court would step in.

Conflicting Orders Under Scrutiny

Anil Kumar Sagar is accused of making two opposite decisions on the same day, October 28, 2024. These decisions were about appeals filed by M/s UG Infratech Private Limited and M/s Sun White Infratech Private Limited. Both companies were challenging Yeida’s earlier decisions from April 1, 2022, which had canceled their lease agreements.
